Residency programs

East Jefferson General Hospital hosts two residency programs, both of which are competitive and challenging and offer excellent opportunities to learn in a dynamic setting with some of the most gifted minds in the region. Although hundreds of qualified applicants vie for a position in our Family Medicine and Podiatric Medicine & Surgery residency programs, only a small number of the most outstanding candidates are selected each year.

In addition to the high esteem East Jefferson General Hospital holds for our residents, not only as students, but also as the capable physicians, our programs offer quality leadership from the East Jefferson General Hospital faculty, a competitive salary and benefits package, and a fantastic location just a few miles outside one of the most vibrant cultural centers of the nation—New Orleans.

Other education and training programs

East Jefferson General Hospital, the first nursing magnet hospital in the region, has partnered with Delgado Community College to provide education and training that is unmatched in the region. Our students have the opportunity to learn in real-world settings with practicing physicians, nurses and emergency specialists. These programs not only offer students a variety of opportunities when they enter the workforce, but also ensure that our community continues to benefit from an outstanding pool of healthcare professionals.

Clinical Pastoral Education Program

Our Foundation: the action/reflection model of education

The action/reflection model of education is the foundation for learning in the Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) program at East Jefferson General Hospital. It is process learning. It is a model that begins with a clinical experience, followed with reflection of the experience that generates critical feedback, consultation, and hopefully, new insight that can be utilized in the next clinical experience.

Applicant interviews

A face-to face interview is required for all programs. The applicant incurs travel expenses for interviews. Applying to a program does not assume that an interview is automatically to follow. For the residency group, experience in ministry and an awareness of the CPE model of learning is required. Such experience is best demonstrated through one unit of ACPE CPE.

The ACPE CPE interview process is more than a job interview, but an interview concerning the applicant’s ability for self-reflection, self-awareness, personal flexibility and an ability and willingness to learn about self.
