EMT/Paramedic Program

East Jefferson General Hospital and Delgado Community College are offering the chance to learn from the best. Our program allows students to complete the necessary coursework for a high-energy, rewarding career in Emergency Services. Not only will you help others in their time of greatest need, you’ll enjoy job security and a variety of opportunities for advancement.

Prerequisites for the Basic EMT Program include a High School Diploma or GED, and placement into English 101 or higher. Financial assistance may be available through grants and other opportunities that can help pay for your tuition. Call for more information.

EMTE Paramedic Program

If you are already a Basic or Intermediate EMT and want to join our Paramedic Program in Spring 2011, take your Intro to Anatomy & Physiology (Biology 161 & 163) course in the Summer or Fall prior, so you’ll be eligible for the Spring class and be ready to move forward.

Students are eligible for admission to the EMTE program who:

  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Place in Math 096 and English 101 on ACT, SAT or Delgado College Placement Test and not at a remedial reading level.
  • Successfully complete prerequisite courses BIOL 161 and BIOL 163 (Intro to A&P) or approved equivalent for CTS program.
  • Have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0 in all college courses. Are currently Louisiana State Certified and a Nationally Registered EMT—Basic or Intermediate.

To begin the program, you first need to register as a student with Delgado. You can do this on campus, or at www.dcc.edu. We encourage you to enroll early to process all course requirements and for time to work with your Delgado Allied Health Admissions Advisor.
