Comprehensive Caring

From the most state-of-the-art diagnostics for the earliest, most accurate diagnosis of cancer to the most thorough and compassionate support groups to comprehensive survivor programs, East Jefferson General Hospital leads the way in providing the level of care you need throughout every step of your cancer journey. This is only a partial list of the support groups and other offerings we have and/or host.

Working in conjunction with the American Cancer Society and others, we develop programs aimed at treating you as a whole. You are much more than a specific cancer site. Effective treatment takes into account your frame of mind, as well as the relationships in your life. There are many resources available. If you don't see exactly what you need here, call us and we will do all we can to help.

Navigating Through Cancer Care

In 2007, when East Jefferson General Hospital became a member of the MD Anderson Cancer Network, EJGH introduced Debbie Schmitz as their first ever Cancer Care Navigator. Debbie's previous experience in the EJGH Breast Care Center had perfectly prepared her for this very unique role in providing one-on-one resources to patients and their families. From the start, Debbie was able to help reduce or in many cases, eliminate any confusion that patients had historically dealt with in battling cancer.

Once diagnosed, cancer patients enter a world of unfamiliar terminologies, appointments, treatments and medications. The navigator's function is to eliminate the mystery and uncertainty of care and help streamline the process so all the patient has to think about is getting well.

Today, the navigator program at EJGH has grown to include specific navigators for breast, prostate and lung cancers. It also has proved so successful that it is being adopted by other hospitals and across other service lines such as cardiology and orthopedics.

The Cancer Care Navigator Program is just one innovation that is helping EJGH create new survivors every day.
