The Breastfeeding Center at EJGH is dedicated to the promotion and support of breastfeeding as the standard for optimal infant health and development. By providing specialized educational programs, information and one-on-one assistance to women throughout the breastfeeding experience, EJGH has established itself as one of the premier hospitals for breastfeeding support in the state. Not only do Registered Nurses, Internationally Board Certified as Lactation Consultants, staff our Breastfeeding Center but because of our commitment to providing the community with resources and support for breastfeeding, it has been GIFT (Guided Infant Feeding Techniques) Certified by the Louisiana Maternal and Child Health Coalition since 2007.

Lactation Consultations *

Private consultations addressing individual needs can be arranged for both inpatient and outpatient mothers and are available at the Breastfeeding Center. Consultants can assist new mothers with a variety of concerns including the following:

• Creating a plan for a breastfeeding mother returning to work
• Assessing a mother's milk supply and the infant's intake during a feeding
• Providing reassurance when things are going well and support for a plan to resolve a problem or concern
• Assisting a mother to reach her breastfeeding goals

Breastfeeding Supplies/Rentals

Our Lactation Consultants offer personalized guidance and instruction for the proper use of breastfeeding supplies. The Breastfeeding Center offers a full suite of supplies including breast pumps, which are available for purchase or rental, for short term or long-term needs.
