East Jefferson General Hospital is the first Louisiana hospital to receive Heart Failure Accreditation from the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care (SCPC). SCPC is an international not-for-profit organization that focuses on transforming cardiovascular care by assisting facilities in their effort to create communities of excellence that bring together quality, cost and patient satisfaction.

"I could not be more proud of this organization for the teamwork and excellence in care it provides to our community," says Dr. Mark Peters, EJGH President and CEO. "The accreditation puts us among the nation's leaders in successfully treating patients with heart failure. From diagnosis through recovery, our team of medical experts provides a high level of lifesaving care. We make it a priority to also teach patients how to make healthy choices in everyday life upon discharge, and this becomes the hallmark of our comprehensive program. I congratulate all of our team members for this honor."

SCPCBy being Heart Failure Accredited, EJGH has enhanced the quality of care for heart failure patients and has demonstrated its commitment to higher standards. Recognizing that heart failure is a leading cause of mortality in the U.S., the new status in Heart Failure Accreditation demonstrates the hospital's commitment to effectively managing the increasing numbers of heart failure patients presenting to emergency departments. With a goal of reducing inappropriate hospital admissions and re-admissions, EJGH seeks to improve patients' quality of life and ensures appropriate placement of patients based on clinical presentation and initial response to treatment.

Dr. Peters noted, "East Jefferson General Hospital has one of the region's most accomplished cardiology divisions, and is well ahead of the curve in comprehensive heart care. Our efforts in preventing and treating diseases of the heart have long been among the most advanced in the state and have recently been recognized as innovators on both the national and international stages." The hospital's Cardiovascular division also participates in a multi-site, national research study on heart failure patients conducted through the American Nurses Credentialing Center. EJGH's participation in this study was made possible through a grant provided by The Foundation at EJGH.
