On a beautiful, albeit a bit chilly, evening in March, The Foundation hosted some of our most generous and loyal donors to celebrate Care, Philanthropy and Community at East Jefferson General Hospital.
Benefactors gathered in the courtyard on the hospital campus, and surrounded by the blossoming azaeleas, enjoyed an evening amongst donors and friends with music by the Joe Simon Jazz Band. They were able to learn about some of the wonderful things happening at EJGH.
EJGH President and CEO Dr. Mark Peters reflected back on 2012, a year of innovation, accreditations and accomplishments, sharing that in 2012 EJGH achieved Nursing Magnet hospital re-accreditation and became the first in the state of Louisiana to earn Heart Failure accreditation from the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care (which was made possible in part through participation in a heart failure study funded by The Foundation). He also proudly announced that we successfully completed a $3 million capital campaign (our largest to-date), and began construction to build a new Outpatient Oncology Infusion Center. We anticipate treating patients in the new facility in late 2013.
The chairman of the EJGH Hospital Board, Sheriff Newell Normand reminded us of the importance of community and that strong healthcare, strong education and public safety are all vital to a community's wellness, prosperity and quality of life. Most certainly, EJGH is and continues to be the best example of the value a community hospital has to its community.
Bob Mathis, Chairman of the Foundation's Board of Trustees, shared a heart-felt story of coming home to East Jefferson General Hospital. He and his wife Cheryl experienced the healing hands of the physicians and nurses at East Jefferson during their battles against cancer. As chairman, Bob thanked all in attendance for their loyal generosity as EJGH strives for a level of care that sets medical and community standards, exceeds expectations and enhances how we touch the lives of patients and their loved ones.
"It was wonderful to be with our most loyal supporters and to have the opportunity to say, in person, Thank You.", said The Foundation President and CEO Carolyn A. Chassee, CFRE. "We are so grateful to the many donors whose support strengthens and builds the extraordinary patient-centered care our community deserves. All donor gifts stay right here – and support the Expert Medicine and Extraordinary Care provided at East Jefferson General Hospital."
