On a beautiful, albeit a bit chilly, evening in March, The Foundation hosted some of our most generous and loyal donors to celebrate Care, Philanthropy and Community at East Jefferson General Hospital.
Benefactors gathered in the courtyard on the hospital campus, and surrounded by the blossoming azaeleas, enjoyed an evening amongst donors and friends with music by the Joe Simon Jazz Band. They were able to learn about some of the wonderful things happening at EJGH.
EJGH President and CEO Dr. Mark Peters reflected back on 2012, a year of innovation, accreditations and accomplishments, sharing that in 2012 EJGH achieved Nursing Magnet hospital re-accreditation and became the first in the state of Louisiana to earn Heart Failure accreditation from the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care (which was made possible in part through participation in a heart failure study funded by The Foundation). He also proudly announced that we successfully completed a $3 million capital campaign (our largest to-date), and began construction to build a new Outpatient Oncology Infusion Center. We anticipate treating patients in the new facility in late 2013.
Fay Cloy first got to know East Jefferson General Hospital when she was diagnosed with stage 2 lung cancer in 2010 and received her chemotherapy treatment in the Infusion Center. While she noted that the space was cramped and crowded, what really stayed with her was how kind the nurses and staff were to her, bringing food such as fresh fruit, snacks and even lunch for both the patients and their family members so no one would have to leave her side.
In the spring of 2012, Fay, who was in remission, and her daughter Nadine LaGrange decided to become more involved with EJGH and volunteer. Both had voids in their life since Fay had recently retired and Nadine's children had left for college. Both wanted to be a part of helping other patients, and Fay's cousin (the late Paul Grenier) had volunteered at EJGH for years and always spoke about how much he loved it.

As Medical Director of the EJGH Emergency Department for almost 20 years, Dr. John Wales takes to heart the mission of East Jefferson General Hospital – to deliver the highest quality, compassionate care to the patients and community we serve. As a former Chair of The Foundation Board of Trustees, he embodies the philanthropic spirit by leading through example.
Dr. Wales had heard about new technologies that made it easier and faster to intubate patients. So through a donor directed gift to The Foundation, he took it upon himself to make sure his Emergency Physicians were getting the best equipment to provide their patients with the best care possible.
Each year, we celebrate the nationally recognized Doctors' Day on March 30 by honoring our dedicated and expert physicians. You are invited to join us in recognizing these outstanding individuals by making an honorary gift to The Foundation at EJGH. You are encouraged to include a message for your doctor that will also be shared with them.
