Volunteer services

Since East Jefferson General Hospital opened its doors in 1971, volunteers have played a vital role in caring for our community. Today, our dedicated volunteers continue to give their time, energy and talents to almost every department in the hospital.

Volunteer opportunities exist in our business offices, nursing units, information desks and other areas. No matter what your interests and abilities are, we have a place for you as an East Jefferson General Hospital volunteer.

Becoming a volunteer is easy. You can also apply online by clicking here or come by our Volunteer Services office, located on the 1st floor of the hospital for an application. Our staff will assist you individually to complete the process and match you with a department or area that you are most interested in.

Junior Volunteers

East Jefferson General Hospital offers you a way to meet your school's community service requirement, while learning more about a future career in healthcare. To volunteer, you must be 14 years of age and have completed the 8th grade.

Volunteer - it's good for you

When you volunteer you both give and receive. Through volunteering, you can:

  • Meet new people. Volunteering allows you to meet others with similar interests and make new friends. You might even make contacts for future internships or employment opportunities.
  • Learn new skills such as working as part of a team, setting and reaching goals, and the importance of guest services.
  • Explore a healthcare career. Find out more about your career options and what areas of healthcare you might be best at and most enjoy.
  • Add to your college or job application. Volunteering shows you can make a commitment and stick to it. It also shows others you are willing to help improve our community.

Join our team

  • Apply online by clicking here.
  • Attend orientation. All volunteers must attend an orientation session before beginning their assignments. Orientation is your introduction to the hospital, its team, and your fellow volunteers. You’ll learn about hospital policies and standards, as well as our expectations of you as a volunteer.
  • Get medical clearance. Volunteers must submit a physician’s clearance to join the volunteer program. You must also make an appointment with the Volunteer Services health nurse to have a TB skin test.
  • Make a commitment. Junior volunteers must commit to 50 hours of service per year.
