Exercise is Medicine is an initiative launched by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and the American Medical Association (AMA) focused on encouraging health care providers to include exercise when designing treatment plans for patients.
The purpose of the program is to partner with physicians to lead patients to understand and act on using regular exercise as a method of treatment for attaining and maintaining health.
Exercise is Medicine is a 12-week exercise and nutrition program at the Wellness Center designed to prevent and stop the progression of chronic diseases, including heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and obesity. If you recently have had joint replacement surgery or have one or more following conditions: Fibromyalgia, Parkinson’s, Multiple Sclerosis, this program is your first step to achieving optimal health.
$299 paid in full for the 12-week program.
Participants will only be able to renew in this program once for a cost of $450.
As a participant in Exercise is Medicine (EIM), you will meet one-on-one with a credentialed ACSM Exercise is Medicine® fitness expert and a Registered Dietitian. You’ll receive the tools, including an exercise prescription and nutrition plan, necessary to achieve your goals. We’ll report your participation and progress to your physician throughout the duration of the program.
Program includes:
One, 90 minute initial fitness assessment
One, 90 minute initial nutrition consultation
Two, 60 minute fitness re-assessments at weeks 6 and 12
One, 30 minute follow up nutrition consultation at week 9
Biweekly check-ins via phone, text, or email with a Registered Dietitian
If sold separately, the cost of the above services is $489.

All activity and aquatic classes are included with membership. Specialty classes are free to members, but Specialty Services are additional cost to members and non-members. Specialty class schedules vary. Most classes meet once per week for a period of eight weeks. Please call the Wellness Center at (504) 503-6868 for fee and schedule information.

EJGH Wellness Center presents relaxing Tai Chi exercises in various art galleries at NOMA Monday evenings at 6pm. Or Join us for Yoga Saturday mornings at 8:00am among NOMA’s outstanding permanent collection, or if weather permitting, in the Besthoff’s Sculpture Garden.
Classes are $5 or free to members of EJGH Wellness Center, EJGH Healthy Lifestyles or members of NOMA.
